assessing nky's current tree coverage
How much of Northern KY is covered by trees when viewed from above aerial images? And why does that matter?
NKUCFC received a grant from the Kentucky Division of Forestry to assess just that - our existing canopy in 2014 and its impacts. Canopy was analyzed across the three counties of Boone, Kenton and Campbell, and special reports and funding for follow-up tree planting to start countering low canopy numbers in certain areas was performed for one entity in each county - Newport in Campbell County, Covington in Kenton County, and Gunpowder Creek Watershed in Boone County.
A snapshot of this data follows. More information will be made available to the public soon.

More detailed canopy summaries are available now for the three focus areas as well: Gunpowder Watershed, Covington and Newport, as well as for each county as a whole.
