taking Root nky
Taking Root is a collaborative, broad-based campaign to address the current historic loss of our region's tree canopy by planting trees, better managing our local forests, promoting the many benefits of healthy trees, and fostering a sense of stewardship among individuals and communities.
The goal is to plant 2 million trees by 2020, one for each person in the region. NKUCFC is coordinating these efforts in the Northern KY portion of the metro area: Boone, Kenton and Campbell counties.
Examples of projects we're coordinating in NKY are: community tree planting events, partnering with local organizations, businesses and municipalities, spreading the word about the importance of trees and threats they are facing. There is a way for everyone to get involved!
Upcoming opportunities to get involved:
The Mary Kathryn Dickerson Educational Grove - Tree Planting
Tower Park, Fort Thomas, Campbell County, KY - We planted 23 native species for Make a Difference Day utilizing the commitment of approximately 15 volunteers from our local community. Stay tuned for details regarding the dedication of educational and memorial signage to honor Mary Kathryn Dickerson, the District Director of Boone, Kenton, and Campbell County Conservation Districts, who passed away on June 22, 2015. Many of the volunteers that helped out on Make a Difference Day cared and respected Mary Kathryn and that showed through their dedication to plant trees in her honor.
