NKUCFC’s Trees in our Communities Grant Program

This funding opportunity is sponsored by the Kentucky Division of Forestry through Northern Kentucky Urban & Community Forestry Council, with financial support from the U. S. Forest Service. Funding range is $500 - $2,500 to urban forestry projects in Boone, Campbell and Kenton counties. |

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES:
- Improve understanding of the benefits of preserving existing tree cover in urban areas and communities.
- Encourage owners of private residences and commercial properties to maintain trees and expand forest cover on their properties.
- Develop tree boards and tree ordinances in local communities.
- Provide educational programs and technical assistance to non-profit local organizations.
- Promote the establishment of demonstration projects to illustrate the benefits of forest cover and trees.
- Implement a tree-planting program.
- Enhance the technical skills of individuals involved in the planning, development, and maintenance of urban and community forestry programs.
- Implement the State Urban Forestry Strategic Plan,
“Planning for a Greener Kentucky”.

Kentucky Division of Forestry's Urban and Community Forestry Grant Program
Kentucky Division of Forestry, in cooperation with the Kentucky Urban Forestry Council, administers this grant program. The goal of the program is to encourage citizen involvement in creating and supporting long-term and sustained Urban and Community Forestry programs. The program is open to projects in Kentucky only. The Challenge Cost-Share Grant Program
The National Urban & Community Forestry Advisory Council distributes request for pre-proposals to their Challenge Cost-Share Grant Program each October.
Pre-proposals are evaluated by the Council on the basis of meeting the specified criteria and demonstrating merit relative to the other proposals. Selected applicants are then invited to submit full proposals. Project funding must be matched on at least a 50-50 basis from non-federal sources and the project must have national scope, application, and distribution of its findings.
