The Tree Planting Database is a project of the Northern
Kentucky Urban and Community Forestry Council, in partnership
with the Northern Kentucky University Center for Applied
Ecology, University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension
Service, Kentucky Division of Forestry, and local
landscape, nursery and arborist professionals.
The Database has been created in efforts to meet the need
in Northern Kentucky for urban tree planting assistance. It
compiles over 400 trees known to grow in the region into a
searchable format, including tree characteristics such as:
-
size and soil requirements
- form
- wildlife
value
- landscaping
interest
This
can help anyone involved in the planning and planting of trees
to identify tree species that are most appropriate for their
planting area, such as:
- home
landscapes
- parks
- commercial
properties
- neighborhood
streets
- forest
restoration areas
Although
the Tree Planting Database is up and running for public use,
it is far from 100% complete. There is much tree characteristic
information that needs input from horticulture and arborist
professionals. In addition, we hope to include photographs
for many of the listed trees when additional funding is received.
Choosing
the right tree for the site is just as important as using
appropriate planting techniques. We hope that you use this
site often and encourage others with tree planting interests
to do the same.
