Kenton County Forest Quality Assessment:  Phase I
This assessment and analysis identified the extent and relative quality of the urban and rural forest canopy cover in Kenton County. The primary results of this study are the identification and the location of significant areas of forest cover and the determination of their relative quality to create a base line of forest resource data.

Kenton County Forest Quality Assessment:  Phase II
Critical Areas Analysis for Community Team-Building and
Protection/Restoration Area Project Planning

Based on the findings of the 2004 Kenton County Forest Quality Assessment (KC FQA), recommendations and next steps of the 2004 BACE project, input from the 2005 Kenton County Stakeholders meeting, and the needs of the NKAPC, a project scope has been proposed for Phase II of the KC FQA.
The scope of this project will address three areas:

  • The need to raise awareness and/or concern in some sectors of the government and development communities to have one of the guiding principles in land development, the management of our natural resources and features.
  • The need for countywide data to indicate the locations and ownership of developing and developable areas in the County that is critical to managing forest and water resources.
  • The need to create and improve coordinated efforts, collaborations, and communications between property owner and/or developer, municipalities, county government, regulatory and permitting agencies, planning commissions, and environmental organizations.

This project was started in the fall of 2005 and should be complete by the end of 2006.
